Physically-based models to better predict and understand DO in trout redds

Quinn's M.Sc research has focused on testing a physically-based model to determine whether predictions of intragravel dissolved oxygen concentrations within trout redds resembled dissolved oxygen dynamics measured In situ. This required building artificial trout redds within multiple reaches and installing dissolved oxygen loggers within the egg zone of the redds, as well as measuring channel and gravel bed parameters over the course of the spawning period including channel discharge, suspended sediment concentrations and particle size, sediment ingress quantities and rates, bed roughness, water temperature, and channel morphology."
